Back From Camp

We took a teenager to camp....

And brought home a young man. He looked different, he talked different. I had to check several times to make sure it was really Pierrie. Miss Brenda

Today was my 1st day back at Obasi. I was at Camp INCLUCITY for a week. I had so much fun and learned so much about life and how to live. It was so great, I made life long friends. And now I’m able see people for who they really are. Man it was so much fun. The week was based on different ISM’s. Ageism- Faithism- Adeism- Sexism-Hetrosexism- Classism- Apperism and Racism. Each day we talked about one of these topics and it was really hard. We talked about how it was ok for guys to cry. All the guys went upstairs and we talked. It was neat to see a kid there I knew since 4th grade really open up and he wanted to get to know me. I couldn’t stand this kid before but now I see him as a person a friend, it was weird. At camp it was fun making hew friends it was weird because everyone was so open to everyone else and really wanted to get to know each other. When we got there there was a poster on the wall that said “COME AS A STRANGER, LEAVE AS ONE and that is what we did, we left as one big family. I wish everyone could go to this camp vecsue the world would be a better place. We talked about so many things tht I can’t seem to write them all down. But I would like to let you know that I’m working on a poem call “Inclucity.”

A Working Man

Pierrie is working for the Lincoln Parks and Rec's Green Team for about 3 weeks this summer.
I started my job on Thursday and it is good, it’s not great because it’s hot and it’s hard work. But this lady I work with said I had good work ethic. Today she told me they should be paying me triple for all the hard work I’m doing. I like that. Cool!

I Have Many Friends.

A poem by Pierrie for school, He was suppose to use colors and the same line at the end of each verse.

I used to be like a brown and white beagle puppy,
Shy before strangers.
But now I'm yellow and verbose,
Sitting in class.
I have many friends.

I used to hide in the ack of the crowd,
Grey in the shadow.
But now I am a busy little bumble bee,
Bright yellow and black.
I have many friends.

I used to peek around corners,
With my big brown eyes.
But now I stroll through the building like I own the place,
Wearing my red suede.
I have many friends.

I used to run scared,
Like a white headless chicken.
But now I carry my bald fade,
Until my black burns grow back.
I have many friends.

On Tuesday the words, "What I like about you Miss Brenda" rang throughout the house. Some of the things that were said about Brenda were: "Thanks for being here for us," and "Thanks for letting us come to Obasi and for loving us."
As we celebrated her birthday, I can say that we all had a great time at the party. We ate hotdogs, hamburgers and chips.
We also played games and we had a great time talking about tall the things going on in our lives too.
Jodene was a big part in planning the party, so I would like to thank Jodene for making everything work out.

Thoughts On Driving

Just a few weeks ago a young lady died from a motor vehicle accident. She attended my school, Lincoln High.
This summer I will be taking Drivers ED and will have my Drivers license at the end of the class. My feelings on getting my drivers license is a tug of war, I do want to get it but then again I don’t. There have been so many accidents this month and it’s hard to think about driving. When I begin to drive, I hope that I will be able to be a safe driver for all you out on the road. Watch out because I am coming.

Hipped Hopped to South Dakota

Over Easter break I got to go to South Dakota, it was so much fun. On the way there it took forever to get there and it was a little scary because it started to snow. There was a lot of cars in the ditches. We saw lots of deer and turkeys on the way too.

When we got there we stayed at the Barefoot Lodge up in Deadwood-Lead South Dakota. Then we went swimming in the pool. It snowed for 2 and half days so we stayed inside for those 2 days. It was so cold.

We also went and saw Jewel Cave, the 2nd longest cave in the world. It was so awesome. We went over 200 feet down into the earth, it was so cool to see all the forms and things in the cave. We had such a great time there.

On Easter Sunday we went sliding on the ski slope. It was tons of fun. We went super fast.

I had a lot of fun on our trip and hope that I can go there again someday. I want to thank the Mach Family for taking me with them on their Easter Trip.

Money Don't Grow On Trees

Today us kids learned about ways that kids make money.
We also talked about different ways we have made money. I remember when I was younger and I used to go rake leaves. It wasn't much fun but it brought home the bacon.
We also looked in the newspaper and learned how to find jobs and what to look for. We looked at a paper route and looked at all the different things that gowes with that job. We also looked at some other jobs and there benefits.

On The Job.

I have been thinking about having a career in radiology.
Today I got to go job shadow the awesome ladies in the radiology unit at Saint Elizabeth Hospital. It was so great I got to see a lot of cool stuff.
When I had first got there they didn’t have much for me to sit in on and watch them do, so I got to go see what a PET scan was which is like a CT scan which is like a CAT scan which I still have no idea what the difference is, except I do know that a PET scan has nothing to do with a pet and a CAT scan has nothing to do with a cat.
Today I learned that when the techs are taking a x-ray they have to put some clear dye in the body to light up all the blood vessels and the patients who are getting x-rays have to drink something that lines their stomach so that it will show up better when the x-rays come out.
I also got to sit in on some MRI’S which are x-rays with a great big magnet. There were some pictures of some lower backs that you could see all the disks in the back. I also got to see some pictures of a brain and of a head.
When that was all done I got to go see an iv put into someone’s arm. I got to go look at all the different units in the hospital. We then went to the burn unit but we didn’t stay long because I got a little sick.
After taking the tour I think that radiology is a great job for me to get into. I liked the people there and I really think the work is interesting.
I would just like to thank the nice ladies that showed me around and I would like to thank Beth Carlson for making it all work out, Jonella Eisentreger for showing me around, Oh and Miss Brenda for staying on my backside to job shadow.

Bye For Now

I Got Money In The Bank.

Well today I opened my 1st Savings Account. Yes that's right a savings account.
I am saving up for a car someday. Jodene helped me when we went to the bank. She really knows a lot about banks.
Then after that we went to go look at cars and how to find a good car to drive. It was so much fun.
So pray that I would save fast and be able to get that car real soon.

Hey Grab A Dollar Bill for This One

Tuesday, March 20

Did you know that dollar bills are made up of 25% cotton and 75% linen. Today we learned that in money class. We also learned that each dollar has a different serial number. Did you know that the big letter by the picture of George Washington, tells you what major city it is made in?
The reason why the pyramid isn’t finished is because it means that the United States has room for growth. And the eye at the top represents the watchful gaze of God. Today we also learned that the average one-dollar bill is in circulation is for 18 mouths and we also learned that it cost four cents to make 1, one-dollar bill.

HOPE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY TOO.
